...and always nice to see Laurent Olivier and his group of reenactors preserving the memory of the mighty 501st Geronimo Regiment. They seem to be properly attired for the Bulge, including the combat boots which were worn in that time period, although they are dangerous to jump in and even uncomfortable to march in. The fact that these guys sacrifice style & comfort for authenticity is evidence of their determination to be historically accurate. ..a fine bunch of liiving history guys, doing it right.(2010) These guys usually don't even do 506th impressions, but they managed to get the helmet stencils right. Instead of the over-sized spades, with flourishy stems...well they have obviously consulted wartime photos, which is the best info source for accuracy on such details. Getting such details wrong can ruin the credibility of even the best-staged photography. Largely due to the leadership of Laurent O., the Belgian Friendly guys have set a standard that other groups should emulate. (2011) This bunch of reenactors based in Belgium, always does a professional job and like Lee's Allied Abn group, they are frequently asked to form the color guards at various events and memorial remembrances. Under the able leadership of Laurent Olivier, I've seen them do impressions of F/501, A/506th, the 67th Armored Rgt of the 2nd Armored Division as above) and the 17th Abn Division. They always present an accurate and professional impression. (2012) Mark Bando, Historien de la 101st Airborne Division |
